Bat Roost Characterisation Surveys

Bat Roost Characterisation Surveys

Bats

Dusk emergence and/or dawn re-entry surveys of buildings or trees associated with the development that are known to support roosting bats. These surveys determine the species of bat present, and the type of roost.

The type of activity (e.g. foraging, commuting or mating) will also be recorded. Roosts are identified by observing the bats’ activity at dusk/dawn, and either their emergence from or entry into the building/tree.  This allows roost characterisation and an assessment of the likely impacts of the development. This can then be used to support an application to Natural England for a licence (EPSML) to allow works to progress lawfully.
